The Mirror of the Heart  Are You Good Enough to Get to Heaven?

Dear Soul,

What would you say if you were asked tonight,

"Are you good enough to go to Heaven?"

Maybe you think...

"I haven't been such a bad person."

"I go to church most Sundays."

"I think my good outweigh my bad."

But what does the scriptures say about your evaluation?

The scripture states,

"There is none righteous, no not one, (Romans 3:21)

"All of our righteousness are as filthy rags." (Isaiah 64:6)

That doesn't sound too encouraging!

We are all born sinners since the fall of Adam.

Daily, we struggle with our fleshly desires,

desires that are not pleasing to God.

God gave to us the Ten Commandments

to be our schoolmaster to lead us to Christ.

They are like a mirror that reveal to us our dirty hearts.

It is only when we look into the mirror of the Ten Commandments

can we see just how dirty our hearts really is.

Once we understand that we are guilty of sin,

can we turn to the Lord for forgiveness.

But thanks be to God we have a Savior

who understands our weaknesses.

He is familiar with temptations that we face

having been tempted in all areas of life,

yet without sin.

If we did not know we have sinned,

we would not know our need of a Savior,

therefore we would die in our sins,

and spend eternity without Him.

Search your heart, dear soul, be brutally honest,

as you take a moment to see how you're doing

in keeping the Ten Commandments:

1) "Thou shalt have no other gods before me."

-Soul, are there any other gods your worshipping

besides the One and True God?

2)"Thou shalt not make unto thee any grave image..."

Do you bow down to anything or anyone but God?

3)"Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord Thy God in vain."

Soul, have you ever failed to keep a promise?

or use the Lord's name in profanity,

in a heated moment?

4)"Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy."

Are you setting aside the Lord's day,

as a day of rest as it was intended to be?

Or is it another day to be filled work or pleasure,

like all of the other days of the week.

5)"Honor thy father and thy mother"

Do you obey your parents with a reverence heart?

Or do you roll your eyes, and obey them grudingly?

6)"Thou shalt not kill"

Have you ever killed someone,

or wished them dead in an argument?

7)"Thou shalt not commit adultery"

Have you ever committed adultery

or lusted after someone in your heart?

8)"Thou shalt not steal"

Have you ever stolen anything,

no matter how small it is?

9)"Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor"

Soul, have you ever told a lie?

Have you ever damaged another person's character

by making false statements, or to injure their reputation?

10)"Thou shalt not covet"

Have you ever lusted after something that belonged to another person?

Maybe one of  their posessions...

their clothes, boyfriend, newest CD...or car?

Dear soul,

In the light of God's commandments, how did you do?

It's a sobering thought, isn't it!

For one day each of us will stand before the Lord to be judged.

We will stand transparent before Him,

as each thought, each word, and motive of our heart

is scrutinized in His revealing light.

The Scripture states,

"For whosoever shall keep the whole law,

and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of them all.

-James 2:10

If it were not  for the Commandments,

we would not realize that we have sinned.

Therefore we would die in our sins,

not realizing that we were lost!

But thanks be to God He didn't leave us to die in our sins,

but has made a provision through the shed blood of His Son,

for the forgiveness of our sins.

"But God commendeth His love toward us,

in that, while we were yet sinners, He died for us."

-Romans 5:8

Soul, it  should overwhelm our hearts,

and turn us to God!

"For God sent not His Son into the world

to condemn the world;

but that the world through Him might be saved."

-John 3:17

Soul, in the mirror of the commandments,

do you see your need of a Savior?

What ever the sin, the Lord will forgive

if you will ask Him tonight.

Don't fall asleep without Jesus!

The Scriptures states,

"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus,

and shalt believe in thine heart

that God hath raised Him from the dead,

thou shalt be saved."

-Romans 10:9

Right now, wherever you are

you can bow your head,

and commit your life to Christ.

You can begin a relationship with Him

by praying a prayer such as the following:

"O God, I am a sinner.

I am sorry for my sins.

Please forgive me.

I want to turn from my sin.

I receive Jesus Christ as my Savior;

I confess Him as my Lord.

From now on, I want to follow Him.

In Jesus' name, Amen"

If you have decided to trust Jesus Christ as your Savior

after reading this invitation, please let us know.

We would love to hear from you. (Your first name is sufficient.)
