Digging Your Way Out of Debt

Dear soul,

Inside of many homes today there is a secret.

One that is destroying marriages, and isolating familes,

robbing us of the abundant life and financial freedom

that God longs for us to have.

It's the secret of personal debt.

Personal debt inflicts the lives of millions of families.

It weighs heavily on our hearts and on our minds.

It's secretcy only adds to the burden

as we try to hide it from others and often from ourselves.

Afraid of  looking like a failure, we hide it from our children.

Till they follow in our footsteps, and are in debt themselves.

Today the average household carries

almost $10,000  in personal debt.

We are pilling up debt by spending money we don't have,

to impress people who may not even like us,

to fill the empty void in our lives.

The Scriptures tell us that a man's life

consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he posesseth

but in contentment, and a helpless dependence on Him.

Over and over throughout Scriptures

we are warned against greed and coveteousness.

Yet, too many of us are familiar with the sting of debt

as we toss and turn at night,

wondering where the next payment is coming.

Living paycheck to paycheck.

If that sounds familiar, you are not alone.

Many of us, including me,

have failed in the area of our finances.

We live frustrated lives as we stare helplessly at the pile of debt

not knowing which one to pay first.

Although your debt may seem insurmountable,

the Lord is interested in your finances.

He spoke more on the subject of money and posessions

than any other topic in Scripture.

Often He uses money to test our hearts,

to see what is important to us.

Our time, talents, and posessions all belong to Him,

to be used for His purposes, and to provide for our families.

The first step in digging your way out of debt

is to take a honest look at your finances.

Although painful, even in debt

we must give back to the Lord what is His

as we plan a budget to live within our means.

For as long as we excuse sin in our lives,

we will  continue to fall further behind.

Often the Lord blesses our obedience

by extending the life of things we have.

The car that you are driving

may last longer than what is expected,

or your house be in need of fewer repairs

when you give sacrificially.

Although some debts are inevitable,

The one debt that remains outstanding

is the debt of love we owe to one another.

God showed us His love,

through the shed blood of His Son.

It cost Him everything, yet He held back nothing

so that we could have a personal relationship with Him

for all of eternity.

The Scriptures say,

"For God so loved the world,

that He gave His only begotten Son,

that whosoever believeth in Him

should not perish,

but have everlasting life."

(John 3:16)

"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus,

and shalt believe in thine heart

that God hath raised Him from the dead,

thou shalt be saved."

-Romans 10:9

Right now, wherever you are

you can bow your head,

and commit your life to Christ.

You can begin a relationship with Him

by praying a prayer such as the following:

"O God, I am a sinner.

I am sorry for my sins.

Please forgive me.

I want to turn from my sin.

I receive Jesus Christ as my Savior;

I confess Him as my Lord.

From now on, I want to follow Him.

In Jesus' name, Amen."

If you have decided to trust Jesus Christ as your Savior

after reading this invitation, we would love to hear from you.
